A Coincidence
This morning’s local paper ran an article on organic lawn care, and how some local landscapers are looking for more earth-friendly ways to maintain the lawns and gardens they service. Already thinking about what to write about this, I was amused to find a brochure for Grassroots Environmental Education (the organization cited in the article) when I stopped by the local library at lunchtime. I will take this coincidence as a sign that this post was meant to be.
My eldest son recently brought home a flier advising parents to help their children recognize signs where pesticides have been used. Scientific studies have linked pesticides to asthma, nervous disorders and learning disabilities, and children are especially vulnerable: It is disturbing that their use is so prevalent the school felt that parents should be alerted. Let’s hope that organizations such as Grassroots prevail, and that soon such fliers will no longer be necessary.
