Werner Figuren and the Frauenkirche Dresden

A friend has just returned from visiting the Frauenkirche Dresden, which will celebrate its 800th anniversary in 2006. She brought us a brochure from the cathedral’s shop, which is featuring a wonderful new collection of figures by Siegfried Werner. Herr Werner was hard at work on these pieces when we visited him in July, and they truly are special, showing the “Historischer Saechsischer Baeckeraufzug 1889″, a ceremonial procession of bakers carrying the Stollenbrett long associated with the city of Dresden.

The cathedral’s store does not show these figures online yet, although it does feature two groups of the cathedral’s stonemasons, also by the Werner workshop (these are in the Spielzeug/Volkskunst category). But they are brand new, so perhaps a little patience is required.
