Toy Safety

As I was putting our youngest in his car seat, I discovered that a toy he loves to play with there had broken. It is an old toy (a mouse with rattling rings around his body) and has already been through two brothers, so it really isn’t a surprise–his favorite thing is to bang it against the edge of the seat. It was only one of the rings that broke, so he can still bang away with it, but this reminded me that it should be a regular habit to check the condition of his toys. Any toy, whatever its material, can chip or split or splinter, and though it is sad to retire old favorites, there are times when it is absolutely necessary, for safety’s sake.
