I was sorry not to be able to see the Salzburg Marionette Theatre this Sunday, when they presented “Hansel and Gretel” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It would have been a wonderful experience for the kids, I am sure, and I love marionettes and puppet shows. There remain some tour dates around the country, though no longer in the Northeast, and if any readers are able to attend, I highly encourage it.

We saw the Marionettes on our honeymoon in Austria, performing Mozart’s “Magic Flute”. The music is recorded, but the puppeteering is so skillful that you soon are swept up in the performance, almost forgetting that these are not real actors on the stage.
